The focus of this seminar are capture pump technologies for Ultra / Extreme High Vacuum (UHV / XHV). Basically there will be three sections:
We will start with the classic Sputter Ion Pump. Discussing different pump elements and their typical applications, advantages and limitations, like the widely known Argon instability. There will be a brief look on special solutions for XHV and Electron Microscopes before we will move towards the pump High Voltage Controllers. Beside todays features like ion pump current to pressure conversion, low current reading and communication styles, we will have a close look on the High Voltage Connections between controller and pump. In particular cables, connectors, feedthroughs and safety features will be examined.
Then there will be an overview of supporting pumps, especially the Titan Sublimation Pump (TSP) and Non Evaporable Getter (NEG) and their corresponding controllers. When and why to use these pumps and where to pay attention to.
In section three best practice for UHV will be presented. Tips and Tricks when working with CFflanges, a demonstration on the importance of cleanliness when working wit UHV and strategies on how to bake out the vacuum system avoiding typical pitfalls and what to do for keeping your system in a good shape (vacuum contaminants, high-potting…).
