VISIT ALBA
ALBA organises presential and virtual guided tours where participants can learn what a synchrotron is and what the different beamlines are used for. A person will accompany you around the facility. Visits are free of charge and they are addressed to school groups, university students, vocational training and researchers, as well as professional and cultural institutions and associations.
Once a year, ALBA Synchrotron open its doors to the general public. Our scientists will guide you through our facilities, where you will also find activities to enjoy with the whole family. See previous editions. Next edition planned for spring 2023.

Available for Android, iPhone and Windows Phones. You can also use the audio guide to visit and get to know ALBA Synchrotron comfortably from home. You will find lots of photos as well as audios!
EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES AND OUTREACH MATERIALS
How exactly does the ALBA Synchrotron work? Is it similar to CERN, the Geneva accelerator? Who works at ALBA? ALBAdivulga is a collection of infographics made to clarify your doubts about the Synchrotron, some of them are even interactive. Don’t miss them! Check and download the ones you want. Would you like to receive a book for your class? Ask for a copy.
A series of videos about the different applications of synchrotron light on diverse scientific fields: health, nutrition, environment, cultural heritage, etc. Videos are recorded in Catalan and/or Spanish, and have subtitles in English, Catalan and Spanish. You can find more videos on our YouTube channel.
Research teams from all over the world come to ALBA Synchrotron to perform their experiments. Find out more about some of the most relevant studies carried out in collaboration with ALBA.

Thus, all kind of public, from schools, families and children to young people or adults of all ages, will be able to learn about and participate in the science of their territory through different activities such as workshops, talks, shows, experiments, astronomical observations and games. More information about the activities in Catalonia. Previous years: 2014, 2015
Mad about Science: The Physics course of the Mad about science programme of the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera is a course developed jointly by the Institut de Física d'Altes Energies (IFAE) and the Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia (ICN2) aimed at students in the first year of baccalaureate with a special interest and talent for Physics. ALBA Synchrotron collaborates annually in the organisation of one of the sessions.
Science Festival (Barcelona): Once a year, several organisations plan activities to bring specific and technological knowledge closer to society through a two-day event. This is the Science Festival coordinated by the Barcelona Science programme, which each year involves more than a hundred research centres, universities, companies, associations and outreach professionals, including ALBA Synchrotron. Participations: 2014, 2019, 2021.
ALBA Mission is an educational project addressed to children in 5th and 6th grade of primary school throughout Spain. Since its launch in 2018, more than 30.000 students have participated.
Research Papers Assessment
If you are thinking about doing your Baccalaureate Research Paper on a topic related to synchrotrons, you can contact ALBA so that our scientific staff can guide you.
The Junior Report Activity project is an educational tool that encourages critical thinking in secondary school students. The aim is to make them participate in the reality around them, while at the same time informing and deepening their knowledge of a global current affairs topic. In order to do this, we work on one of the topics published in the digital newspaper Junior Report through various activities. The didactic unit "Synchrotron: Particle Accelerator" is free of charge.
The STEM Preparades! (in English, We are prepared!) educational programme helps to break down stereotypes about science and gender in the classroom and allows secondary schools in Barcelona to visit and learn about the work being done at ALBA Synchrotron, the only light laboratory in southwest Europe. If you are interested in receiving more details, contact us.
INTERNSHIPS
ALBA Synchrotron offers the possibility for university students to do an internship at its facilities. Interested students should apply to the annual call.
ALBA Synchrotron and the department of Education of the Generalitat de Catalunya collaborate in the teaching and learning of vocational training students at ALBA facilities. Dual vocational training combines theoretical and practical knowledge in different divisions of ALBA and allows students to learn while gaining professional experience.
